Level Two Curriculum

This material is taught to Green and Brown sash students.

Forms

Two Tai Chi forms and the Classical Bagua form are in this level's material

Chen 18 Drills

Several drills are taught that help prepare the student for the Chen 18 form.

Chen 18 (modified) form

One of the oldest Tai Chi forms. This form is short (18 movements) and combines both slow and fast motions coupled with explosive power. It and the drills are generally taught in 2 months.

Yang Tai Chi Broadsword form

This form introduces the student to practicing Tai Chi with a weapon. The broadsword is a single edge slightly curved blade that is about the size of a manchette.  (Students must purchase a sword if they want to learn this form.) It has circular and swift movements that improve strength, flexibility, and precision.

Classical Bagua

This is a late 19th century form that uses circular walking to evade and maneuver behind an opponent.  Instead of fists, palms are used for striking. Power is created by coiling/uncoiling the body. This is a fast form whose speed is limited by the student's ability to make correct moves.  (Our 60+ students/instructors are not as fast as our 20-50 year old students/instructors - speed is chosen by the practitioner.)  This is a long form and is broken into 8 parts for teaching.

Medical Qigong

Medical Qigong exercises

6 Healing Breaths

Six different breathing patterns using vocalization to help release stale Qi and invigorate the student's energy.

Five Animal Frolics

A complete system of Qigong exercises that promote movement, balance and Qi.  The five animals are: Monkey, Tiger, Bear, Deer, and Bird (crane).

  • Playing Animals - Refresh Qi, increases balance and strength
  • Resting Animals - Harmonize breath and mind. Promotes increased flexibility
  • Taught at 1st black level: Shien Tien Chi - A neigong exercise that focuses on activating the meridians without the use of breath.

Breathing and Meditation

Meditation is a very old practice dating back to prehistoric times. Several different ways to meditate are taught with the goal for the student to discover which works best for them.  Modern science has shown that meditation has many physical benefits of which lowering blood pressure and decreasing anxiety are two.
